Plastic injection molding is a process in manufacturing where parts, toys and other items are made by injecting the plastic into a mold. The process of injection molding can be used with many materials, but plastic is one of the most flexible, and the most used.

The plastic injection mold that is going to be used for the item is fed into a plastic barrel while it is how, then mixed with the right ingredients to give it consistency, and then it is fed into the cavity of the mold where it then cools, and when it hardens it has hardened to the shape of the mole. The desired parts or objects that are to be pushed through the plastic injection molding have to be extremely well designed in order to make the process work, and everything has to be carefully planned as to the mold material, special features of the part, and the molding machine properties. The reason that plastic injection molding is so versatile is largely due to this planning and the flexibility of the process.

Plastic is a very diverse material and it is used in millions of different configurations and shapes. It is able to be reproduced easily into thousands of parts in a very quick and efficient manner because of the ease in which it can be reproduced in any shape. When the injection mold manufacturing is in full swing, it uses a screw or a ram type of plunger to force the hot, molten plastic into the cavity of the mold, which then forms the shape of the item desired when the plastic cools.

The first polymer, or plastic type of material was produced in 1847 by a man named Jons Jacob Berzelius, and the first commercial plastic from a mold was made in 1862, and the rest is history.
